Liberty In The Liberty Movement?

Posted on 03 September 2010 by hearus

As Brian T. Campbell Sr. and I stood on the East steps (yes the East steps) of the Colorado State Capitol on February 27th of 2009 at the first Denver metro Tea Party, we were encouraged by the obvious unity of the some 250 – 300 persons in attendance. fight4liberty

We also shared with each other the same question, what issues could destroy what we saw growing before us?

One of those issues we thought, could be, disagreement on candidates.

Will the current disagreement between groups and individuals about the Colorado governors race destroy the Liberty movement in the state?

I don’t know, I kind of doubt it.

But the risk does exist as the animosity seems to be on the increase.

I angered and lost some allies when Tom Tancredo entered the race as a third party candidate and I expressed my belief that to enter the race as he did was not a move I, personally, supported.

People actually choose to disassociate with me because I held and continue to hold that belief.

This without my having said anything about if I believed him qualified or not to be governor of Colorado.

Wednesday evening Hear Us Now pulled it’s endorsement of Dan Maes.

The ‘fall out’ has actually been minimal, so far.

We took a few very nasty emails, lost a couple of people on our email list (gained 24 on our email list), lost a few Facebook associates and have been removed from the email list of other organizations.

This is all well and fine.

As a co-founder of Hear Us Now I state that we have, in all things, acted in honesty and with integrity and if we ceased to exist as a group tomorrow, I’m fine with going out like that.

My concern is with the sentiment of the few emails we took against our decision to pull our endorsement of Maes and with many of the messages I see across Facebook and in some email threads.

It seems that some believe they cannot be disagreed with.

There exists a core of people who support Tom Tancredo in this race and believe that a vote for Maes is not a vote based upon principle.

Clearly there is as well a core of people who also question an individuals commitment to conservatism, the Liberty movement and the state of Colorado if they are not in support of Dan Maes.

If John Hickenlooper is elected governor of Colorado, some are going to blame Maes supporters and others will blame Tancredo supporters.

Some will never get past the fact that their candidate was not elected and are going to refuse (and already are refusing) to work with those individuals and groups who supported the “other” candidate.

I state flatly; if there is no room in the Liberty movement for disagreement then there is no Liberty in the Liberty movement.

Dan Maes

Posted on 01 September 2010 by hearus

The Hear Us Now committee met at 5:30 Wednesday morning to make a final decision regarding our continued endorsement of Republican candidate for Colorado Governor, Dan Maes. hearsml

We have, in the days following the Republican primary met and discussed, several times our growing concern and dissatisfaction with the Maes campaign.

A final decision was reached by the committee Wednesday morning to rescind our endorsement of Dan Maes.

It’s been no secret among some groups involved in the Liberty movement that we have been considering withdrawing our endorsement.

While some have challenged us suggesting that perhaps we, as a Liberty group, would not be standing on principles were we to withdraw our endorsement, we disagree.

We believe that the principles of the Liberty movement require us to cease any further support of Mr. Maes.

I have been assured that were we to withdraw our endorsement, our group would be “shunned”.

If that is the case, then so be it.

So, today we join CRL and former Senator Hank Brown as we withdraw our endorsement of Dan Maes for Governor of Colorado.

The letter to the Maes campaign is posted directly below. Click on it to download a more viewable copy in PDF form.

Video: Tom Tancredo Explains His Switch To A Third Party

Posted on 07 August 2010 by hearus

On July 29th 2010 former United States Congressman, Tom Tancredo, made his official announcement that he would launch a campaign for governor of Colorado as the candidate from the American Constitution Party.

This created quite a stir in the Republican party and in the Pro-liberty movement.

TomTpublicdomain

We, at Hear Us Now, have withheld any kind of public stance as an organization for various reasons, though as an individual I have shared my personal dissatisfaction, through other avenues, with the decision Mr. Tancredo has made.

On August 4th Tom Tancredo took the time to address the attendees of a Liberty On The Rocks Denver gathering.

I attended this gathering and took video of his Toms talk.

It is 36 minutes worth of video cut into 4 parts.

Part 1 has some shaky moments as I was trying to balance the cams tripod on the back of a sofa, which didn’t work out so great.

If you are unclear, as I was, as to why Tom left the Republican party to run as a third party candidate, please take the time to view the videos.

Honestly, while I did leave feeling I had a better understanding, I did not feel as though the decision was adequately and reasonably explained.

You can view all 4 portions at our Youtube channel.

I’ve embedded part 1 into this posting, you will have to go to the Youtube channel to view parts 2 through 4.

Still Working For Freedom

Posted on 29 July 2010 by hearus

This post is a follow up to an earlier post meant to hopefully encourage you to hook up with some of your local political candidates, volunteering with their campaigns and helping them over the finish line. freedomwork

No matter how great a candidate might be, NOTHING changes in your city, your county, this state or this nation unless you and I are involved and active.

All the rallies, all the meetings we’ve attended… none of it means anything if we are not willing to get involved in the actual process.

Below you will find a list of candidates, contact information and some of the campaigns volunteer needs.

The list is not comprehensive, that is, not all possible candidates are listed due the amount of time it would take to add all possible candidates verses the amount of time I have to do so.

The fact that a candidates name appears on the list below should not be considered an endorsement.

Working For Freedom

Posted on 18 July 2010 by hearus

There are a number of candidates who need your assistance right now.

That assistance need not come in the way of dollars, though money is always a help.

freedomwork

Heading into the primaries which will be held in Colorado on August 10th, many campaigns need assistance with with going door to door and manning phone banks to get their message out.

Listed below are a number of various campaigns, not all by any means, who would love to have YOU as a volunteer.

It is important that so many of us have attended the various rallies and protests that have taken place over the last year and a half.

However, it all means next to nothing if we as Pro-liberty individuals and organizations do not get involved in helping candidates win elections.

Not one thing will change in Colorado or in the nation as a whole if we do not help Constitutionally sound candidates win their various elections.

So please, take the time to volunteer right now, before August 10th, with a campaign.

Also, join us July the 24th for the Grassroots Get Together. A great time to meet the various candidates, other Pro-liberty individuals as well as Pro-liberty organizations.

The candidates are not listed in a particular order. If you see a candidate missing that you believe should be on the list, please email us.

Not all of the candidates listed have a primary opponent, That does not need they are not in  need of volunteers.
